A local writer has begun researching the history of Lebanon Church and the surrounding community in hopes of compiling enough information for publication.
Josh Beavers, an award-winning journalist and Journal contributor, put out a call on Facebook over the weekend requesting aid.
“I’ve begun a new project on the history of the old Lebanon Church in the Ruple Community in Claiborne Parish,” he wrote. “The church dates back to the 1850s and may be the oldest building still standing in Claiborne Parish.”
The church was renovated last year, he said.
“I am a Claiborne native and have many family members, including my sister and father, buried in the church cemetery, and I know that many of you do as well,” he said.
He asked for readers to please message on Facebook or email him at joshwbeavers@gmail.com if you have any information on the history of the church or surrounding Ruple community.
