Update on road, school, business closures

Tonight: Increasing clouds, with a low around 24. Wind chill values as low as 13. South wind 5 to 15 mph.
 
Thursday: Cloudy, then gradually becoming mostly sunny, with a high near 56. South wind 10 to 15 mph becoming west in the afternoon.
 
Thursday Night: Mostly clear, with a low around 25. West wind 5 to 10 mph becoming north after midnight.
 
Road closures: There are no official road closures at this time, but the roads remain very bad with black ice being the main cause of concern. LADOTD reminds the public that the recent winter storm continues to post potential hazards, even with significant melting in many areas occurring during the day today.
Throughout this winter weather event, DOTD has strongly urged motorists to only travel if absolutely necessary, and that continues to be the message into tonight.
 
School closures: ALL CLAIBORNE PARISH SCHOOLS WILL REMAIN CLOSED FOR THURSDAY, JAN. 18
 
Mt. Olive Christian School will remain closed on Thursday. 
 
Claiborne Academy will remain closed on Thursday. 
 
Northwest Louisiana Technical Community College (NLTCC) will be closed with only virtual classes continuing at this time. 
 
Business closures: 
 
Claiborne Parish Library branches will attempt to open at noon on Thursday. 
 
Claiborne Parish Police Jury- Community Action and Public Transportation will not be offering services.
 
Council on Aging will be closed the remainder of the week. 
 
GBT of Haynesville, Homer and Athens will open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
