Nature enthusiasts and wildflower lovers will have an opportunity to learn more about the vibrant flora of North Louisiana at an upcoming event at the Claiborne Parish Library. On Monday, April 14, 2025, at 6:00 p.m., John Michael Kelley, a respected botanist and naturalist, will present a photo-intensive program on spring and summer wildflowers of the Caney Ranger District.
Kelley, a Haughton native, serves as Vice President of the Louisiana Native Plant Society, is a board member and instructor for the Northwest Louisiana Master Naturalists Chapter, and is also a Louisiana Wildlife Federation board member. His expertise in native plant species makes this event a must-attend for anyone interested in Louisiana’s natural beauty.
Attendees will learn why, how, and where to find wildflowers on public lands in Claiborne and Webster parishes. The program will introduce around two dozen species that bloom in the first half of the year. Pressed museum specimens, books, and additional resources will be available for further exploration.
Guests are encouraged to bring any unknown wildflowers for identification by the speaker. Refreshments will be provided, and seats can be reserved by calling 318-927-3845.
This engaging and educational event promises to be an insightful evening for plant lovers and outdoor enthusiasts alike.
