The Louisiana Trust for Historic Preservation has recognized the Claiborne Parish Library as the recipient of the 2026 Education Award, honoring the library’s ongoing efforts to promote and preserve local history through education and community engagement.
The Education Award is presented annually to an individual or organization that has helped broaden public appreciation for the importance of historic preservation in Louisiana. Since 2020, the Claiborne Parish Library has played a central role in documenting the parish’s history by hosting local researchers and supporting the publication of 10 books, including the annual Historic Claiborne series, which features stories and research from local authors.
In addition to its publishing efforts, the library established a free, online database of historic documents and photographs. More than 20,000 images have been digitized and made available to the public, opening access to materials that had been stored and largely inaccessible for decades.
Through extensive research and fundraising, the library has also contributed to the installation of historical markers throughout Claiborne Parish, recognizing notable people, places, and events that shaped the area’s heritage.
Library officials said the award reflects a strong commitment to preserving Claiborne Parish’s past while ensuring it remains accessible to future generations. The Louisiana Trust for Historic Preservation is currently accepting nominations for its 2026 Louisiana Preservation Awards. Nominations may be submitted online through February 9, 2026.
