Louisiana Legends Festival opens nominations for 2026 honorees

The Claiborne Unite Foundation has announced that nominations are now open for the 2026 Louisiana Legends Festival honorees, marking the beginning of the selection process for one of the festival’s most anticipated traditions.

Honoring a Louisiana Legend is the centerpiece of the annual festival, which recognizes individuals who have made a lasting impact through their achievements and service. Past honorees have included Grammy Award-winning blues artist Bobby Rush, internationally recognized orthopedic surgeon Dr. James R. Andrews, Hall of Fame Haynesville High School football coach Alton “Red” Franklin, the 1957 Homer High School “Iron Men” football team, and country music artist Frank Foster. Legacy Legends have included renowned fashion designer Geoffrey Beene and physicians Dr. Willis and Dr. Knighton.

Nominations opened on Feb. 1 for both the Louisiana Legend and Legacy Legend categories.

The Louisiana Legend honoree must be a living distinguished citizen, while the Legacy Legend recognizes a deceased individual whose contributions positively impacted the parish, state, and/or nation.

Organizers say nominees may come from any field or profession. While a connection to Claiborne Parish is considered a plus, it is not required.

Key nomination details include:

  • Anyone may submit a nomination
  • Nominations close February 28, 2026
  • All entries must be submitted through the official nomination platform
  • Nominations not selected will remain active for five years
  • Finalists will be chosen through voting and historical review by the Louisiana Legends Festival Legends Council

The Legends Council will ultimately select the 2026 honorees.

Nomination forms and additional information are available at legendsfest.us.

Community members are encouraged to take part in recognizing individuals whose lives and accomplishments have helped shape Louisiana’s rich history and culture.
