Homer Police Department seeking applicants for two full-time officer positions

The Town of Homer is seeking qualified candidates to join the Homer Police Department, with applications currently being accepted for two full-time police officer positions.

Town officials announced the hiring effort this week as part of an initiative to strengthen public safety services and expand the department’s patrol capabilities throughout the community.

According to the employment announcement, the positions will serve under the leadership of Police Chief Van McDaniel and are intended to enhance the department’s ability to provide around-the-clock law enforcement coverage for Homer residents.

The positions offer an annual salary ranging from $32,000 to $42,000, depending on experience and law enforcement certification.

The jobs remain open until filled.

Police officers hired by the department will be responsible for a variety of duties, including patrolling assigned areas, responding to emergency and non-emergency calls, conducting investigations, enforcing local ordinances and state laws, preparing reports, participating in community policing programs, and working alongside the Claiborne Parish Sheriff’s Office and Louisiana State Police when needed.

Applicants must be at least 21 years old, possess a high school diploma or GED, hold a valid Louisiana driver’s license with an acceptable driving record, and either possess or be eligible to obtain Louisiana POST (Peace Officer Standards and Training) certification. Candidates must also successfully complete a background investigation, drug screening, and psychological evaluation.

Officials noted that prior law enforcement or military experience is preferred but not required.

In addition to competitive pay, the Town of Homer offers a benefits package that includes health insurance, retirement participation through the Louisiana Municipal Police Employees’ Retirement System, town-issued uniforms and equipment, and ongoing training opportunities.

Applications may be obtained at Homer City Hall, located at 400 East Main Street in downtown Homer, or by contacting the Homer Police Department directly.

Completed applications should be submitted to the Town of Homer Human Resources Department at City Hall.

Town officials say the hiring effort reflects a continued commitment to public safety and community service throughout Homer and Claiborne Parish.

The Town of Homer is an equal opportunity employer, and all qualified applicants are encouraged to apply.

For additional information, applicants may contact Homer City Hall at (318) 927-3555 or the Homer Police Department’s non-emergency line at (318) 927-4000.
