Haynesville Police Department highlights domestic violence statistics, resources available

The Haynesville Police Department is raising awareness about the impact of domestic violence in Louisiana by sharing sobering statistics and reminding victims that help is available.

According to the department, domestic violence continues to affect thousands of individuals and families across the state each year. Officials emphasize that these numbers represent real people and real lives, encouraging anyone experiencing abuse to seek assistance.

Among the statistics highlighted:

1 in 3 women and 1 in 10 men in Louisiana experience physical violence by an intimate partner during their lifetime.

27,153 domestic violence incidents were reported to Louisiana law enforcement agencies in 2023.

15,172 victims received services from Louisiana domestic violence programs in 2023.

Nationally, an average of 2.4 victims every minute experience physical abuse, sexual assault, or stalking by an intimate partner.

More than 60% of Louisiana domestic violence victims report experiencing verbal, emotional, or financial abuse in addition to physical abuse.

Approximately 76% of Louisiana domestic violence victims were abused by a current or former spouse, boyfriend, or girlfriend.
