The Haynesville Police Department is warning residents to be cautious of calls, text messages or letters claiming to provide information about court dates.

According to the department, Haynesville Police will not call or text individuals about a court date and generally will not mail a letter regarding a regular court date.

There are, however, some exceptions. The department said a letter may be mailed when an individual’s court date has changed.

Police also clarified that the department does send letters in certain circumstances involving bench warrants or failure to pay on an established payment plan. Those notices are intended to give individuals an opportunity to make arrangements to address the warrant or outstanding payment.

Residents who receive a suspicious call, text or letter claiming to be from the Haynesville Police Department regarding court are encouraged to contact the department directly before responding or taking any action.

The department issued the notice in an effort to help residents distinguish legitimate communications from potentially fraudulent or misleading messages.
