Athens Police Chief Keith Watkins enacted an emergency awareness program in 2021. This program is to serve as a way to keep residents, family and friends informed of any potentially dangerous situations happening within the community.
For those wishing to be notified when criminal activity is happening in your area all you have to do is fill out the attached form and drop it by the Athens Village Hall or contact them at 318- 258- 5275.
Once you are registered to begin receiving the notifications via cell phone or email, you will get alerts when an incident happens near your address. The alert will tell you what has happened, what to be aware of and possible instructions to follow to remain safe.
Also, if the Athens Police Department is informed that a resident is going to be leaving their house unoccupied for an extended period of time, they can make extra patrols in the area to ensure your residence remains secured.
This service is completely free and alerts can be deactivated at any time.
