Obituary: Ronald Searcy Thompson

Ronald Searcy Thompson was a Man of God who loved his Lord and Savior with all his heart and soul. He taught Sunday School and served as Ordained Deacon in Evergreen Baptist Church for over 25 years. He accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior at age 15 in Hebron Baptist Church in 1957. He was a devout Christian who witnessed to and led many people to Salvation. He never wavered in his faith in Jesus Christ, his Lord and Savior and held God’s words in the Good Book, the Holy Bible close to his heart as his shining light and his life’s guide.

He was born at home, Route #2, Bernice, Louisiana on January 2, 1943 to Carl Vincent Thompson, Sr. and Edna Earl Autrey Thompson. His life was dedicated to serving God in both word and deed and a life of purpose for 81 years. He took to heart God’s words in the Holy Bible: “And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love Him, who have been called according to His purpose.” Romans 8:28. On May 31, 2024 Ronald Searcy Thompson fulfilled God’s purpose for him here on earth and God
called him to His Holy Service in the realms of Heaven and to join his beloved wife of over 55 years of marriage, Charolette Wiltcher Thompson, who passed into Heaven on July 11, 2023.

He attended and graduated from in Summerfield High School in Claiborne Parish, in May 1961, enrolled in and graduated from Louisiana Tech University (then known as Louisiana Polytechnic Institute) in May 1965 with a Baccalaureate Degree in Elementary Education. His first teaching position was with E. S. Richardson Elementary School in Minden, Louisiana. He proceeded to obtain a Master’s Degree and Plus 30.

He taught in several elementary schools until his retirement in 1985 at which time he began ranching on his grandfather Jesse H. Thompson’s old cotton farm and home- place until his health would no longer allow him to continue. His happiest days were spent on the farm, riding his ATV and accompanied by Charolette and surrounded by his herd of Jesey and Angus cattle and his beloved dogs. When his health began to wane his beloved nephew, Michael Ray Ellis, who lived in Ronald’s old home located on the farm, joined him in ranching and performing the labor-intensive chores.

During Ronald’s teaching career he blessed many young students with the education, mentoring and life-coping skills necessary to achieve the “Great American Dream” of good jobs, good salaries and successful careers to support themselves and their families with a high quality of life and happiness. Ronald’s service as a dedicated and successful schoolteacher will be forever and always revered and held in the highest esteem. He loved teaching, mentoring, counselling, and witnessing to his many beloved students. One of his greatest desires was to be remembered forever and always for the positive influence he was able to impart to his many students.

Ronald was an animal lover, especially his cherished dogs who were his constant companions and who he provided loving care, nourishing food and veterinary care. He adopted and provided many stray dogs with loving care and a comfortable home.

Ronald was a blessing to his family, to his fellow members of Evergreen Baptist Church in Union Parish, to his many students, to his many friends and to all who he loved and who loved him. His service to his fellow citizens in many and varied community service activities will be forever and always honored and appreciated by all who were blessed by his love, devotion and many years of service. Ronald Searcy Thompson was truly a community and family treasure who will be forever preserved in our hearts and minds, respected, appreciated, revered, remembered forever and never forgotten.
